This concept gives language to what you have been witnessing in your practice for years — yet it has been largely absent from practitioner education. This evening is about beginning to close that gap.

Through a conversation between a matrescence educator and coach, a pelvic floor physiotherapist and a midwife, we’ll explore how this framework can shape the way we support mothers during one of the most significant transformations of their lives.

sCayley Benjamin
Cayley is a matrescence educator and consultant working at the intersection of maternal health and developmental psychology. She supports mothers, practitioners, and healthcare organizations to better understand and support the transformation of becoming a mother — not just as a medical event, but as a profound developmental experience.

Before starting her own practice five years ago, Cayley spent 14 years working in leadership development, coaching and facilitation for global brands including lululemon and a global consulting firm.

She’s a mom of two, and her work today brings together everything she’s learned — professionally and personally — to help reshape how we understand and support motherhood.

Anniken Chadwick
Anniken is a physio, owner of The Cheerful Pelvis, a mom, and an absolute nerd when it comes to the mechanics of healthy professional relationships. She has learned (allll the hard ways) that personal responsibility is the cornerstone of a vibrant and sustainable clinical practice, and clinic leadership.

She’s direct and swears like a sailor. She’s a deep thinker, an open book, and cares so much about her impact in the world - probably questioning how and why she does things far too much. But that’s also her superpower. “I believe in owning our sh*t hard enough that we can laugh about it.”

Elie Rushton
Elie is a midwife at Westside Midwives and Adjunct Professor in the the UBC Midwifery program. Elie has been a practicing midwife in Vancouver since 2018. Prior to becoming a midwife, Elie worked in reproductive and sexual health research and taught yoga for many years. Outside of her work as a midwife, Elie loves coffee, travelling, working out, and spending time with her family and friends and her dog Bowie, who is her best gal.

She’s currently navigating her own matrescence with three young boys and is on maternity leave from her role as a midwife until the end of 2026.
